The house has welcomed many different groups and they have occupied themselves in hundreds of different ways. With its superb restaurants, markets and wine this is foodie heaven, but there is so much more to the region than that.
RELAXING.
Maybe it is an obvious point, but the house is an extremely therapeutic place to be even for big groups. You can lounge by the large pool, whilst others play tennis, sunbathe in the top garden or on the rolling front lawns, read in the library or have a quiet afternoon siesta. Quite a lot of people pass days without ever leaving the house.
MARKETS.
The house is surrounded by beautiful, thriving bastide towns with superb markets. Our favorite is at Issigeac on a Sunday morning, which is about ten minutes away.
RESTAURANTS.
One of the best is Elborini in Issigeac, which is a great way to wind up a visit to the market there. Bergerac also has many good restaurants.
WINE.
Monbazillac is a world famous dessert wine, but there are plenty of good reds and whites in the leading chateaus. The walk to the impressive Chateau Jaubertie is a great way to get started.
GOLF.
There is an excellent Golf and Country Club called Chateau de Vigiers just along the ridge from Monbazillac. It is an 18 hole par 72 championship course designed by Donald Steel around the chateau.
CANOEING.
Nothing beats canoeing down the Dordogne. If you have kids, you will be spending a lot of time in the water on a hot day…
WALKING.
You can start in a bar and end in a restaurant, or the other way around – or neither. But there are many hundreds of miles of spectacular walking to be done along the grand randonnees that pass through our valley and cross the region. They are well-marked and there is a guide book in the house.
GO KARTING.
Bring out your inner petrol head at the track in Bergerac. And then feel a bit sick. It is not how you imagined you were going to spend your holiday in France, but your children will love you. For at least ten minutes.
